Travelling enriches your life with powerful memories & chance to feel cultural diversity. Traveling is one of the most powerful mood boosters. It gives you chance to get away from routine, it also brings lots and lots of amazing stories!! But still, we are not traveling enough.
Do you know what is the most common reason people don’t travel enough, especially in India?
It is obviously not money because money plays a very small role in living a happy life.
Obviously, It isn’t lack of time.
you all have enough of it, you just don’t manage it properly.
Dr Karl Pillemer Ph.D. gerontologist interviewed thousands of elder Americans and the results are stocking!!
In one or other way most of them said this: Travel is so rewarding that it should take precedence over other things younger people spend money on.
I being a photographer & a teacher gets to meet a lot of people daily. Whenever I tell that I travel often for photography, they are like “OMG you are so lucky”.
My usual response is “why don’t you also travel often?”
#1 Response to my questions is this: We will once….
- We get our loan completed
- get raise in job
- are planning baby
- Our children are settled
- We get retired
And the list goes on and on…..
The biggest reason is they are waiting, and they just keep doing it.
This reminds me of a dialogue from a movie named “The Great Debaters
the time for justice, the time for freedom, and the time for equality is always, is always right now!
Yes I know, it looks like you just cannot ignore everything and go for traveling. But I will tell you how you can keep traveling without worrying about cost, time & responsibilities.
SO Now, say NO to the people who tell, you cannot afford it,
Travel is so rewarding that it should take precedence over other things younger people spend money on.
Cool breeze at the beach & golden sun rays can enlighten your evening, Few hours spent at a beach can refresh your mind. is it expensive to find a beach in India? I am afraid, it is not.
Standing at the edge of the mountain and watch the horizon meeting the earth. Is this impossible to do? No, it is not.
We mistakenly take traveling as an expensive hobby. You don’t need to book extravagant hotels to experience the beauty of traveling. One survey tells that visiting new place gives you more pleasure & mood elevation than a shopping can give!! Ladies are you listening??
You just need to leave your home behind, because
Every step taken is one less to the destination.
Often we miss creating memories of happy traveling time not because you think you don’t have enough money & time.
How can you manage time & money to travel enough?
when I started earning, I spent most of my money on silly things likes expensive clothes, mobile phone & random things. When I look at my past, I feel I was so stupid back then.
My money was vanishing into thin air and I was clueless about it.
But I learned from my own mistakes. I started to learn how money works. I made simple changes to my spendings and saving habits.
With this, I put my money to work & earn for me so that I can enjoy my upcoming traveling without worry.
So here is the ultimate guide to: save more, earn more & spend more guilt free!!
#1 Knowing what NOT to do is more important than knowing what to do with your money.
Yes, you can save lacs rupee just by avoiding some stupid money mistakes.
Starting today, set a budget for your expenses and compare it with actual expenses. Allocate money to all the possible expenses including car repair/bill payments etc. This way you will never have a sudden money requirement.
Don’t get tempted by discount offers, while you save 10-20 % you are actually spending the rest of 80%!!
#2 Keep aside some portion for money mistakes
I have this habit of putting some money for my money mistake. No matter how I plan my budget I often make some money mistakes.
For example, I keep aside money for my car service but I forgot one thing, the car needs new tyres. It would have affected my budget severely if I was not keeping some money every month for my money mistakes.
If at the end of a year, I somehow manage to not do any mistake I will spend 30% of it guilt free on traveling or buying camera stuff.
#3 Convert your hobby to business
I love photography, videography & web designing. At one point of life, I was just doing it for my pleasure.
But something happened that changed my view towards it completely. I stumbled upon upwork and started earning doing freelancing work.
I have never taken any professional training for any of my hobbies ( saved thousands there ) and yet I am earning enough to do trip & buy cameras form it,
You may have a hobby of writing poems, short stories or painting. You may be good at convincing people about your story or you are an amazing photographer. There are thousands of requirements for such work, you just need to get started with it.
I am planning to write another post to explain how you can get started using upwork for freelance work and start earning more!!
#4 Avoid peak season
Just by changing the time of your traveling you avoid big deal of cost on accommodation, air fares & local transportations.
#5 Free Accommodation
If you love to indulge in other culture and don’t mind sharing your stay with a host, Couchsurfing is one amazing site to get free accommodation anywhere in the world.
If you don’t like sharing you will love this option. Do you think you make amazing food? Are you good at managing event or a good accountant or good at paintings? a great web designer??
Check out this sites where you can stay in exchange for your work!!
#6 Magic of compounding in equality
Recently a study was done on where top 1% rich people invest their money,
No not in real estate, but in equities.
We Indians have a tendency to take pathetic decisions when it comes to investing money, ending up with a lot of frustration when you actually need money.
Most of the Indians consider real estate & gold as their first investment option. I am not saying they are bad, but why put all your money in one basket?
Also, the home you buy to stay is not an investment. Its prize can go skyrocket yet you cannot sell it.
But the biggest issue with real estate is this
Think that you have a property of 1 Crore, you want to sell it in 1 day and receive the money. It is almost impossible. There is no liquidity in real estate.
On the other end, Equity has proven record of making millionaires from nothing. Rakesh Junjunwala, Porinju, Dolly Khana have created wealth ( white money ) which is impossible with real estate.
Yes, it is risky and yet rich people invest 90% of their money in it. I don’t need to tell these people are master when it comes to money. that’s why they are richest!!
Traveling is life-changing experience
Don’t wait to travel until it is too late!!
